Minister’s Letter

Well, Autumn seems to be kicking in now, and this month we’ll be celebrating the opening of the church to the community, as well as Harvest – something I gather has been very popular in recent years with loads of non-Trinity visitors.  This will be a significant time for Trinity and it’s exciting for me to be here getting involved in all that’s going on.  Please do come along on 6 and 7 October and bring friends with you.  It’ll be interesting to see how leafleting the whole parish went.  Do pray that we have loads of visitors and that, through the events and the new facilities, especially the chapel, we can build many new relationships with folk in the neighbourhood.  A big thank you to all who have been putting the weekend together.  For a number of people, this has meant many hours of work.  THANK YOU.

As I write, it’s been nearly two weeks since my licensing!  The time has whizzed by!  Many thanks to all who helped make the licensing service happen so successfully.  So far, I’ve been on a roller coaster of committee meetings, which have been extremely helpful and useful in getting me introduced to many of the people and activities of Trinity.  It is impressive to see lots of people so committed and involved and I’m looking forward to talking and praying with as many of you as possible in the coming weeks and, as I do, seeking God for what he wants us to be working together on in the coming months.

It’ll be good to get through the current round of committee meetings, to free up some time in the evenings to begin inviting you round to the house for some nosh and a natter.  Jo and I hope to begin doing this soon.  I am also planning to visit all the organisations based around Trinity, to say “hello” and to get a feel for how they see Trinity and how our relationship with each of them may develop over time.  It’ll interesting to see whether the inter-agency group that used to exist at the District Centre could begin again, with Trinity perhaps taking the lead.

As a family, we’re settling in and happy to be here.  We’ve joined the leisure centre and are enjoying the great facilities there.  Lily and Nancy are getting used to the Piggott School and Jack commutes to Bracknell each day to college.  I’m out and about running too and was delighted to hear from one of you who does jog.  I’m not sure whether he’ll be up for applying for the London Marathon next year – something he’s done several times.  Do get in touch if you fancy having a go.  We can talk about doing it for charity.

Thank you for wearing your name badges in September – a great help!!

I’ve been struck afresh in recent days about the benefits of living each day very much in God’s grace, about noticing all the ordinary things in life which are too often taken for granted, but which are gifts from God.  I’ve found reflecting on the 23rd Psalm very helpful.  Why don’t you have a look at it.

Every blessing,

Jon

Wanted:  Your Junk!!!

For Trinity Fun Day

We are organising a fabulous fun day for children, called “Chaos to Creation”, to be held on Saturday 13 October, here at Trinity Church.  (See below for more information.)

We are planning some fantastic crafts and we need YOUR JUNK, so please look in your garages, tool boxes, stationery drawers, sewing boxes, kitchens, etc.

We need:-

SMALL metal and plastic junk, such as metal washers, nuts, bolts, old keys, coins, hinges, small springs, cogs, old broken jewellery (not valuable), used fuses, circuit boards and other small components/parts from electrical items, metal beer bottle tops, small plastic bottle tops, paper clips, metal chain, curtain hooks, unwanted board game pieces, press studs, flat buttons or any other similar odds and ends.

BIG metal and plastic junk, such as used or unwanted CD, DVD, MP3 discs (not the cases please), unwanted or broken kitchen, garden or DIY implements/items – such as spatulas, spoons, sieves, old cutlery, paint rollers, worn out paint brushes, tools or other similar odds and ends (nothing sharp please).  If it is made from metal or plastic and looks interesting, we can probably use it.  Also, we are looking for electrical wire, electrical tape, plastic garden netting and plastic or metal tubing.

NB: We DO NOT require plastic bottles or any cardboard/paper items this time.

There are two boxes in church, marked SMALL JUNK and BIG JUNK, for your donations.  Thanks so much for your help.

Cathy MacLennan
