Music plays a major part at Trinity Church. As befits the style of Trinity Church we enjoy a wide range of different musical styles, often incorporating traditional hymn and modern hymns and choruses into one service. This serves to enhance the variety and breadth of Worship in Trinity Church, enabling us to draw on the riches of different eras of Church music, for example Wesley hymns, modern choruses, organ, piano, guitar and band.
Trinity BandTrinity is really blessed in its musical talent, and the Trinity band musicians are always enthusiastic and willing in making a major contribution to the Worship in Trinity (and elsewhere). The Trinity band leads our singing in Worship on a regular basis (approximately every fortnight) in morning and evening services, as well as special events and concerts. The band has approximately 21 members, both young and old. The instruments they play include:
The band always perform with great vitality and talent, greatly enhancing worship by their efforts. You can see the Trinity band on our pictures page.
Singing groupThe Singing Group has over the last several years become an established part
of Trinity Church tradition and worship. The group boasts some 25 regular
singers. In total, close to 50 people have sung with the group since it was
formed. Some people may not realise, but the history of the group goes back to
around 1990 when the group met purely socially once a month, in members' houses.
All levels of musical ability are welcome, from never having sung before and
can't read music through to experienced musicians. There is lots of "note
bashing", so all have confidence with the music. Hymn booksIn line with Trinity's traditions we use more than one hymn book. We originally chose 'With One Voice' as our major traditional hymnal. This is a hymn book for all the churches, originating from Australia, when a number of denominations got together to produce a contemporary ecumenical hymn book. It is a collection of 579 hymns, published in 1977 (as The Australian Hymn Book) and approved for use by the participating denominations, but offered to all Christians who may wish to use it. For more modern hymns, songs and Choruses we used 'Junior Praise' However, we have now replaced both of the above and moved on to a new book - Complete Mission Praise. We also have created our own collection of extra songs we call the Trinity Hymn Book. Even then its not uncommon to have a new song printed in the notices or on the overhead projector. |
