Locality

The Church is situated in (Lower) Earley a new housing development between Reading and the M4 motorway. Although the community relates to Reading as a focus for shopping and entertainment the parish is in the administrative District of Wokingham which has a predominantly rural character.

The population of Lower Earley is over 10,000 and is still growing as more housing is built. This growth is likely to tail off fairly soon as the land available for housing is almost exhausted. (Although new developments are planned south of the M4).

Lower Earley can be fairly described as being predominantly middle class, with most residents being owner occupiers of a wide range of dwellings from studio flats to mansions. There are also several old people's homes and small areas of council housing. A nearby university hall of residence houses predominantly mature overseas students which has helped the Church develop overseas links.

There is little skilled employment in the immediate area but a high proportion of employed residents work in high technology industries in nearby towns or in London. This commuting culture makes for a fast pace of life. Lower Earley is a constantly busy, vibrant place on the leading edge of social change.
