| Welcome to the website of the Pen and Camera Club of Methodism
President's Welcome
It is my privilege and honour to welcome
you to our website. Please take time to read about the club, its foundation as
part of the Wesley Guild, and over one hundred years of photographic activity,
and latterly the inclusion of an art folio.
We are a postal club but we meet for our AGM and exhibition, and to meet our fellow members, at a residential weekend in the Spring at Willersley Castle in Derbyshire. There are also Northern and Southern re-union weekends in the Autumn. Members enjoy the fellowship of the various folios and the help that comes from constructive comments on each others work. A fine display of members work is to be found in our Gallery. Use the menu on the left to find further information about the club. If you feel that you would like to practice your photography, or art, within a warm Christian fellowship or to comment on our website we would love to hear from you via our visitor's page. Colin Pickles. President, Pen and Camera Club of Methodism
Club ProfileThe Pen and Camera Club is about the oldest Postal Portfolio in existence having been founded in 1904 by the Rev’d H. Mudie Draper as a cultural activity of the Methodist Wesley Guild. In the early days, with a membership of around 20 the folio was circulated monthly, including during both World Wars, with members entering monochrome prints until 1956 when the first colour slide folio was formed. A rapid expansion took place after 1965 with the formation of additional folios and the Club now consists of a monochrome folio, 2 colour print folios, 4 colour slide folios, an art folio and a digital folio. The Club has evolved continuously over the years with members using plate, medium format, 35 mm and now digital cameras and this has ensured an active membership that now stands at 108. Membership is aimed at active Methodists, although we are happy to accept others who are willing to worship with us. There are currently vacancies in most of the folios. The Centenary was celebrated at a residential week-end in May2004 with the AGM; a competitive exhibition; a guest lecture by Dr.J.Paren ARPS of the British Antarctic Survey and a display of our Archives. Every year we have a most enjoyable AGM weekend, where old friends can gather and meet new friends and new members, as well as conducting the club's business and competing in slide and print exhibitions for the various trophies.
